Ever since an International Court settled the boundary dispute between France and Canada in 1992, the islands of Saint-Pierre & Miquelon have been in an economic tailspin.

The court's decision was a serious blow to the islands aspirations to adequate economic development.

In recent years, new hope has arisen as the United Nations has proposed new rules governing offshore economic zones (UNCLOS) beyond the 200-mile limit. Will Saint-Pierre & Miquelon one day benefit from the natural resources it has a right to claim?
